Social Responsibility
Gibson T cares about the environment and the people who work with us. We aim to make a positive contribution to society - both socially an environmentally. We believe Gibson T offers a range that our customers can feel good about wearing.

Social Awareness

Gibson T only works with carefully selected manufacturers chosen for their compliance with our professional requirements and reasonable labour practices. Like many Australian brands our Gibson Ts are produced in China. Gibson T is committed to monitoring and re-assessing our manufacturing partners on an annual basis. We actually visit the factory floor and keep informed about what happens in our production process.
We hope that by working with our suppliers and supporting them to continuously upgrade their current social and environmental standards we can gradually affect positive change in the fashion industry.

Environmental Awareness

Where possible Gibson T's  are manufactured using environmentally friendly materials and processes. Our custom blended fabric combines Certified Organic cotton (60%) with Modal® (40%). We have developed this blend to ensure maximum comfort and quality whilst simultaneously reflecting our environmental consciousness.

About Organic Cotton
The cotton we use has been certified as fully organic by Control Union Certifications in accordance with SKAL standards. The cotton is grown in Turkey and spun into yarn in China.

About Modal®
The Modal® component is a trademarked cellulose fiber made from wood (which is harvested from managed forests in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic and Hungary). Modal® is created by the Austrian company Lenzing, who have been widely recognised as a leader of environmental best practice in the textiles industry. They have been especially acknowledged for their environmentally improved processing procedures, and have received multiple awards and certificates including:
  • The 'European Flower' (the Eco Label of the European commission)
  • The European Environment Award (2000)

"What's the most eco-friendly textile?"
The Sunday Life magazine recently put this question to Phil Patterson, Textile Consultant from Colour Connections in the UK. His reply...

"The most sustainable fibre is called Lyocell (made from wood pulp). From a given area of land, you get almost 100 times the amount of cellulose as from a cotton field and it's a clean manufacturing process."
(Note: Lyocell is generic name for cellulose fibres such as Modal.)
